Review - Husin, Mon & Jin Pakai Toncit

Yup, went and saw the sequel to the awesome Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah... well, awesome is used loosely, if we ignore some of the problems... anyway, yes, twice... and I paid for both times, not watching for free... watched once with my niece and nephew, and watched another time with a friend...

So Mamat Khalid's using the same characters from Zombi Kampung Pisang and Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah, the good folks at Kampung Pisang. The story goes... Husin, played ably by Awie, returns to Kampung Pisang, after leaving at the end of the events of HKLBR... because he has gone bankrupt... and as soon as he steps back to his hometown, weird things started happening...

Such as the flying girl in red and also Dr Samsudin, who apparently is the devil incarnate... and no, I am not spoiling anyone because when the doctor shows up in a car, the license plate spelled HE11, ya know... HELL... and he was reading a newspaper from hell...

By the way, the flying girl is the girl who was flying at the end of HKLBR... but she was a different character in that movie... but it's not so subtly revealed later that she is the same character...

Anyway, the movie opened with a scene where characters walk through the woods and the male character met a fiery death, with the girl running away safely... and the scene was repeated, with different characters and different time, to show that this would be the running theme of the movie...

So basically, the movie is about a deal with the devil that the original settlers of Kampung Pisang made... the devil is now taking back what's rightfully his via the deal... which included Husin, Usop and Wan... that's when the flying girl comes in... hoping to save Husin from a fiery death...

Of course, this is Kampung Pisang... nothing bad ever happens here... except that it almost always does... but things always have a way of working things out... like when people died from eating a toxic rendang and turned into zombies... inject them with some miracle drug and the zombification process would stop and give them their lives back... or normal humans when perceived by others as ghosts, can do what ghosts do like jump from rooftops and climb into houses unseen/unheard... but then when people realize that it's actually human, she suddenly cannot do those things anymore...

In any event, this movie employs the same technique and same jokes from HKLBR... some are funny but some are flat because it has been done... although many people in the cinema hall were laughing like crazy... one man's meat is another's poison I guess...

The acting's the same but it's kinda spoiled by the bad dubbing/editing job... in some scenes, you can totally see the actors' lips not moving or moving too fast... and then, there's some scenes which need not be in the movie at all like the music video, or the flashbacks to show the two old guys in the 60's...

But, it is not a bad movie... it's also not a good movie either...
