Avatar

The Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender's (or The Legend of Aang) sequel, has been renewed. I mean, Nickelodeon has ordered additional episodes, on top of the 12 or 14 episodes for Book 2, coming out next year.

Korra, tells the story of... wait for it... Korra, the next Avatar, after Aang... this Avatar has difficulty mastering air bending... and there is a war raging between the Equalists and the Benders... the Equalists believe bending to be evil and aim to rid the world of bending...

Oh, and The Amazing Spiderman has breached the 400 million dollars mark worldwide...

Review - The Amazing Spider-Man

What can I say? It's rather amazing. Although I was initially hesitant about a reboot coz Sam Raimi's Spiderman movies are still kinda new and a couple of them are quite good.

And of course when I found out Andrew Garfield is Spiderman... I was all freaking out and stuff... Not too sure if he could fill the superhero requirement... but I was wrong.. boy, was I wrong... Garfield proved to be an adept Spidey, better than Tobey Maguire.... he had the right amount of hotness, I mean, geekiness and that smoldering thingy that he has that makes him a good Peter Parker... whereas Maguire was geeky but he was also kinda nerdy and a bit too squeaky clean...

Emma Stone... now this girl, I like... Zombieland? The Help? She rocks and she was good in this movie as well... although her role is kinda minor, but then again, all the damsels in distress never do get big roles...

The story goes like this... and yes, it's the same story like the previous movies, coz, hello? It's from the comics and kinda set in stone... Parker got bitten, Uncle Ben dies, Spiderman rages, meets villain, fight to the death... oh, and kisses the girl... but this time, there's a bit of a difference when it comes to the romance...

And the fighting... very cool... very unique... nice... all in all, not a bad start to a reboot trilogy... wait, did they say this was gonna be another trilogy?

Review - The Avengers

The Avengers. A movie that all fanboys have been waiting for. Me especially, since Joss Whedon is directing and/or scripting... if you don't already know this fact, I am a huge Whedon groupie... and have followed all of his work. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favorite show of all time.

So I guess my expectations were kinda high for this movie, especially since I watched Cabin in the Woods and that, too was awesome!

So there hasn't been any movie before this that combines superheroes from different movies into one action packed movie. And no, the X-Men movies don't count coz none of them had their own movies.

What I really love about this movie is that everybody had an important part to play, and not just focused on a couple of characters. I admit some are given better lines than others, some got juicier fight scenes than others, but you don't really get a sense of who's the star in this ensemble.

And a lot of the comic book/gaming geek stuff is in the movie, which made me squeal in delight. Yes I squealed. Deal with it.

Since Joss had a hand in the script as well, the lines were fast and snappy and witty and funny. Unfortunately for me, most of my fellow countrymen cared not about the lines. All they want and/or need are violence and the big bad boom. So a lot of them preferred Battleship over The Avengers. Oh well, their loss. I like the intelligence of the movie and that it is informative enough for anyone who is not familiar with the Marvel world.

A couple of gripes though... Hawkeye calling Black Widow 'Nat'... if her name is Natalie then Nat would have worked, but her name is Natasha... Nah-Tah-Sya... and the Hulk got self control during the alien battle but he did not have it on the helicarrier... nothing major though... hehe... cannot wait for Part 2...

Review - Cabin in the Woods

Joss Whedon is a name most people are not familiar with... unless they have seen his work... like one of the greatest TV shows on Earth, Buffy the Vampire Slayer... or Angel, or Firefly, or Dollhouse...

But Whedon's name is going to explode in a big way this summer, starting with his horror movie homage, The Cabin in the Woods... and then The Avengers...

Cabin tells the story of five college kids, taking a break from it all and heading for, wait for it... a cabin in the woods, for a spot of R&R... little did they know, they have been chosen for a higher purpose in life...

Some people might be turned off by the two parallel stories... one - the kids in the woods... second - a bunch of coats in some kind of laboratory... hmm, I should not continue, dun wanna spoil it...

Some of the Buffyverse actors made an appearance in the movie... Me, being a big fanboy, was squealing in delight when I saw Fred and Andrew... and of course, the entire movie was like a page out of Buffy or Angel...

Like I said earlier, it's an homage to horror movies... but it is still a horror movie... and a creature feature... actually Cabin has everything in it... horror, drama, comedy, action, thrills...

Not being biased here, but this movie is awesome! Wiping drool now...
